Study of status, distribution and ecology of Demoiselle cranes and other migratory and resident birds in phalodi region of india

Project overview

This project assesses the status, distribution, and ecology of Demoiselle Cranes and other migratory and resident bird species in the Phalodi region of India. It compiles baseline information on avifaunal diversity, including key habitats, seasonal use, and major pressures affecting species. The project also explores tourist behaviour and attitudes toward bird conservation, with reference to local conservation sites such as the Kurja Conservation Reserve and ecotourism dynamics in Khichan village. Based on the evidence collected, the project identifies key threats to bird diversity and proposes practical conservation measures and localized monitoring mechanisms. The results are intended to support improved conservation planning and provide a reference baseline for future research and management.

Key outcomes / expected outputs

Outcome of research would help to get baseline information about status, occurrence, richness and distribution of avifauna in Phalodi region. Study will help to know the demography and ecology of winter migratory birds specially Demoiselle cranes at Khichan. It will able us to know major threats to birds and obtained data will also serve as benchmark for devising better conservation strategies for birds in future. This study will help future researcher and motivate others to attempt species specific study. Study will be helpful to make monitoring plan for conservation of Demoiselle cranes and other birds at Phalodi region. We could also able to assess behaviour of tourist toward bird conservation especially at Khichan conservation reserve. After successful completion of work, we could plan to aware local people about bird conservation with collaboration of forest department, NGO’s, and other government agencies. This will greatly benefit future researchers and will also encourage many to attempt and study the winter migratory bird species. The information from the study will also be of vital importance to the forest department for conservation of Demoiselle crane. Simultaneously, the study will further help in suggesting localized monitoring mechanism, wherever, necessary.
