Non-breeding Ecology and Conservation of Threatened Shorebirds in Bangladesh

Since 2015, this long-term project has focused on the non-breeding ecology and conservation of threatened shorebirds in Bangladesh, mainly in Nijhum Dweep National Park and Tanguar Haor—internationally important sites for migratory waterbirds. The work assesses population status and distribution of shorebirds, investigates prey availability and diet composition, and identifies major threats affecting survival during the non-breeding season. Field activities include systematic shorebird counts, habitat surveys, benthic sampling to assess food resources, and direct observations of foraging behaviour. The project also engages local communities to build awareness of wetland importance and strengthen support for shorebird conservation.
