About this project

Since 2021, this project has investigated the migration ecology of Black-tailed Godwits in the Ganges–Brahmaputra–Meghna Delta in Bangladesh. It focuses on mapping migratory movements, identifying key non-breeding sites and stopovers, and clarifying which subspecies use Bangladesh during the non-breeding season. Field activities include population monitoring, behavioural observations, and satellite tracking to understand site use and movement patterns across the delta. The work provides evidence to support conservation planning for migratory shorebirds in one of the world’s largest river deltas and strengthens knowledge relevant to flyway-scale conservation. ## Key facts - **Target species/group:** Shorebirds (Black-tailed Godwits) - **Activity type:** Conservation; Research - **Themes:** Satellite tagging; Ringing/Banding; Shorebirds - **Implementing organization:** Department of Zoology, Jagannath University - **Timeline:** September 2021 – Present ## Key outcomes / expected outputs - Tracking-based understanding of movement patterns and site use in the delta - Evidence on subspecies presence and overlap at non-breeding sites - Research outputs and public-facing communication products to raise awareness
