WG 3 — Energy Infrastructures

The Energy Infrastructures Working Group addresses the growing impacts of renewable energy infrastructure - particularly wind power and transmission lines - on migratory birds along the Central Asian Flyway.

While renewable energy is critical for climate goals, poorly planned infrastructure can cause collision mortality, electrocution, and habitat loss, especially for large soaring birds and waterbirds.

• Minimize bird mortality from Energy Infrastructures infrastructure

• Promote flyway-scale data sharing and risk assessment

• Strengthen capacity for pre- and post-construction monitoring

• Integrate bird-friendly practices into energy planning and policy

• Supporting standardized monitoring and mitigation practices

• Capacity building for practitioners, developers, and regulators

• Engaging donors, governments, and energy institutions

• Promoting  available novel  tools like bird sensitivity maps.

A future where renewable energy development in the CAF is truly bird-friendly, climate-smart, and socially responsible.
