Systematic Bird Collision Surveys
Contribute structured bird collision data collected through research projects, monitoring programmes, environmental assessments, EIAs, and other systematic field studies.
Contribute structured collision-monitoring data
The Central Asian Conservation Network (CACN) is partnering with the Risky Project to develop a comprehensive database of bird collisions with energy infrastructure across the Central Asian Flyway.
The Risky Project is an international collaborative initiative that develops open-access data, analytical tools, and science-based solutions to reduce wildlife mortality caused by energy and transport infrastructure.
Through this portal, we aim to improve our understanding of the impacts of renewable and conventional energy infrastructure on birds. The information collected will help identify collision hotspots, understand species vulnerability, and support evidence-based planning and mitigation measures to reduce bird mortality.
If you are a researcher, conservation practitioner, consultant, environmental impact assessment (EIA) specialist, or an organisation that has collected bird collision data through research, monitoring, environmental assessment, or another field study, we invite you to contribute your data.
Submit your systematic survey data
Download the appropriate Excel template, complete it with your collision records following the instructions included in the workbook, and upload the completed file through this portal.
Powerline survey data
For collision and electrocution records associated with powerlines, substations, line characteristics, mitigation, survey effort, and systematic carcass searches.

For bird mortality records from wind farms, including carcass locations, survey effort, turbines surveyed, mitigation measures, and turbine characteristics.

Upload your completed systematic survey workbook. Keep the original worksheet names and column structure so the data can be reviewed and validated correctly.
The original workbook is stored privately and will be reviewed by the CACN team before it is accepted for research and conservation use.
Data Use and Acknowledgement
Data submitted through this systematic survey pathway will be used for scientific research, conservation planning, and the development of measures to reduce bird collisions with energy infrastructure.
Contributors will receive appropriate acknowledgement wherever their data are used in reports, scientific publications, conservation products, or other outputs. Where applicable, opportunities for collaboration or co-authorship will be discussed with major data contributors.
To promote open biodiversity data and maximise conservation impact, validated datasets may be published through the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF), with attribution to the original data providers and in accordance with agreed data-sharing and licensing arrangements.
Your contribution will help improve understanding of collision risks and support conservation of migratory birds across the Central Asian Flyway.
