Issyk-Kul Ringing Camp

Seasonal ringing camp on the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan, sampling waterbirds, passerines and raptors on migration.

About the station

A collaborative ringing camp established on the northern shoreline of Lake Issyk-Kul in the Tien Shan mountains. The camp is run by the Kyrgyz Ornithological Society together with partner institutions during peak migration periods. Activities include mist-netting of passerines, targeted colour-ringing of waders and waterfowl, and observations of staging and overwintering waterbirds on the lake.

Volunteering & internships

A small number of volunteer places are offered each autumn for trained ringers and keen field ornithologists. Accommodation is provided in shared tents or a field house.
